The Championship – Week Six Preview & Betting Tips

The Championship returns this weekend and the table is beginning to take shape. By the end of this month, we will know who will be challenging at the top and who will be fighting at the bottom. There is no longer an emergency loan window, which means that teams are stuck with the squad that they have. It will be interesting to see what effect that this ruling change has on the division. Here are Jake Jackman‘s three betting tips for the weekend.

BRIGHTON v BRENTFORD

Saturday 10th September – 15:00 BST

Brighton are excellent at the Amex Stadium and I’m expecting that to continue this weekend. They lost their unbeaten record at Newcastle before the international break, but they have a good mentality in the squad and showed their ability to bounce back on countless occasions last season. Their opponents on Saturday, Brentford, have had a decent start and will be challenging in the top half again this season, but I expect the home side to have too much for them and take the three points. The Seagulls have won both their home matches in the league by three goals and I’m tipping Brighton -1.5 in this one.

TIP: Brighton -1.5 (2PTS placed on 2.50 at Bet365)

ROTHERHAM UNITED v BRISTOL CITY

Saturday 10th September – 15:00 BST

I am a huge fan of Bristol City and mentioned them as potential play off candidates before the season started. Their early form backs that up, but the loss of Jonathan Kodjia is a blow. He was the side’s top scorer last year and his exit puts more pressure on Tammy Abraham. The Chelsea loanee has already scored three league goals since moving to the Championship club. I expect him to continue his good start and score this weekend.

TIP: Tammy Abraham to score anytime (2PTS placed on 3.00 at Bet365)

DERBY COUNTY v NEWCASTLE UNITED

Saturday 10th September – 15:00 BST

Derby have had a poor start to the season, scoring just one goal in five league matches. Nigel Pearson is struggling to find his best starting eleven and the loss of Jeff Hendrick is a huge blow to their promotion hopes. They are coming up against an in form Newcastle team that will have Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic back this weekend. Their performance against Brighton was excellent and Rafa Benitez will be hoping for a similar one at Derby. Newcastle have the players to win this game and I expect them to do so.

TIP: Newcastle United to win (2PTS placed on 2.75 at Bet365)

If you would like to combine all three of these in a treble you will get odds of just below 20/1  with Bet365.

TIP: Treble (1PT placed on 20.62 at Bet365)
