EURO 2016 – GROUP B
SLOVAKIA v ENGLAND
After the second-half heroics in Thursday’s 2-1 win over Wales, England now just need a point to guarantee qualification from Group B, however Monday’s opponents Slovakia may need more to secure their future in the tournament.
England were lacklustre against Wales in the first 45 minutes in Lens, and goalkeeper Joe Hart will be waking up in a cold sweat thinking about the Gareth Bale free-kick he conceded because there is no doubt a keeper of his distinction should not have been beaten. A double half-time substitution was made by Roy Hodgson to try and change fortunes and Jamie Vardy made an immediate impact, replacing the worryingly quiet Harry Kane.
Vardy in vast contrast, brought raw energy and enthusiasm to the team and within ten minutes, his goal turned the game in England’s favour. Hodgson’s other half-time replacement, Daniel Sturridge clipped in the stoppage‑time winner that meant Hodgson’s boys could enjoy the view from the top of the group.
Slovakia, themselves with a win under their belt against Russia on Wednesday, have everything to play for when England stroll into St. Etienne on Monday evening. A win and qualification will be theirs, a draw and also it’s a strong possibility.
Marek Hamsik and Juraj Kucka have been superb in the middle of the Slovakian midfield and the pair will be looking to breakdown the English defence, can they do it? I am unsure. One thing I do predict is goals. If Hodgson plays Vardy and Sturridge again, they’ll have a better chance of hitting the back of the net. Over 2.5 goals is valued at 2.38 with BetBright and I see that is our best bet.
If you’re betting… good luck!
