UFC FIGHT NIGHT 88

Mandalay Bay Events Center, Las Vegas, NV.

160528 - Jeremy Stephens

RENAN BARÃO (33-3) vs. JEREMY STEPHENS (24-12)

(Featherweight Division)

Jeremy Stephens heads into this contest as the underdog and rightly so as his opponent Renan Barão is technically the better fighter. However, the way their styles match up, I think this will be a close fight. Stephens has worse cardio than Barão, worse striking than Barão, worse grappling, worse wrestling than his Brazilian opponent but I am still picking him to come out on top.

Stephens has a far superior chin than Barão and much more punch power which is where I see this fight heading. Lil’ Heathen” takedown defence is good enough to stop any attack and looking back to July 2013, Barão really struggled to take Michael McDonald to the mat in their Interim Bantamweight title fight. McDonald not known for his wrestling or takedown defence really coped with any of the Brazilian’s efforts until the California native gassed himself out and eventually lost via submission.  After viewing this fight again myself a few days ago, McDonald really had Barão in trouble with a barrage of punches, but look tired at the end of a vicious series of strikes so failed to capitalize.

Another reason to back my claims in this fight, I look to Barão’s two losses against T.J. Dillashaw, both knockout defeats. Dillashaw smashed Barão with a head kick and punches in the first fight, and fists only for the second but “The Viper” is not known for his knockout power. In fact, I cannot recall Dillashaw been known for his power in his punches, head kicks yes, but not punches.

If Stephens keeps the fight on the feet and catches Barão with a haymaker, the Brazilian, who I feel is on the decline, is going down. Agreed, Barão has superior striking but does not possess the power of Stephens and “The Baron” could outpoint the American on the feet. BUT… if the fight does stay on the feet then Stephens has more chance of catching his opponent and either knocking him out cold, or knocking him down and finishing up shortly after. At the prices listed below, these are too tempting not to jump on and hopefully wake up Monday morning to a great profit.
